Once teammates and forever foes, the oaths of Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso are crossing again at the front of the grid. The Spaniard, astonishingly, finished in third place on his Aston Martin debut. The incredible race result had a domino effect. According to reports, the dominos are falling in Alonso’s favor. Additionally, one domino is falling into the Mercedes garage and on top of Hamilton as well.

Mercedes is planning to supply Aston Martin with their best power units if Hamilton does not perform in the next two races. This situation has come to the fold after Alonso’s incredible result in Bahrain. Seeing his performance, Alonso has placed himself as a genuine title challenger and Mercedes will do everything in that power to take the title away from Red Bull.

The reports also suggest Hamilton is currently running the most powerful engine Mercedes has to offer. If this situation of backing Alonso comes to fruition, Mercedes will shift its focus to Alonso. The team will supply the Hamilton engine, which is three kilowatts or around four horsepower more than Alonso’s current power unit.
