Fernando Alonso is indeed one of the greatest drivers of this generation. The man from Spain is not only a two-time F1 world champion but also a holder of many F1 records. However, Alonso is upset about how the season has been for him in 2022 and believes he belongs to the same league as that of Mercedes drivers.

The man who just started his 350th F1 race in Singapore last week has enough reason to be sad about the 2022 season. After falling prey to multiple DNFs, the Spaniard didn’t have the season he would’ve wanted.
In a report published by The Race, the Alpine driver shared, “If you put me on 60 points more in the standings and you reduce 10 or something for the others because you take points from the others as well, my championship would look much better and close even to the Mercedes.”

“That probably is more accurate for the performance which we’ve put in this year, which I’m very proud of. It was another top five or top six we were fighting for. But the standings don’t translate the true performance”, the Spaniard further stated.

A season full of DNFs, unreliability, and hard luck for Fernando Alonso
Fernando Alonso has been on the opposite side of good luck for quite some time now. At the recent Singapore Grand Prix, he had to retire, citing an engine issue on Lap 22.

Apart from the Singapore race, Alonso also had to face DNFs in Monza, Imola, and Jeddah and faced reliability issues in Melbourne’s qualifying session, which arguably cost him a front-row start. As of now, the former McLaren driver stands in P9 in the driver’s standings with 59 points.

As compared to the Alpine driver, Russell and Hamilton both occupy P4 and P6 in the standings with 203 and 170 points, respectively. All in all, it is unfortunate for any driver to retire due to no fault of his own.
