Fernando Alonso’s F1 Return Not Motivated by Another World Championship

Fernando Alonso has been a sensational driver ever since he joined Formula 1. Winning two championships with Renault, he strived for similar excellence at Ferrari and McLaren later. Unfortunately, it did not unfold the way he thought it would. After the 2018 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, McLaren commemorated Alonso for his service to the sport. Fans thought that was his last race in F1.

However, things and situations change, and now Alonso is back in the paddock with Renault. His motivation is higher, and he has got nothing to lose. Yet, the desire is to continue from where he left – winning races and podiums.

Fernando Alonso is back for the love of driving

Alonso was asked in an interview, if he was intent on winning a third Drivers’ Championship. He stated, “I would like to say yes. But I am aware of the limitations, especially in 2021, there I know not…I return to F1 simply because I love driving and it is a category that comes out more or less unscathed from the pandemic. With its limitations, and with a very powerful brand. I am returning to a team that makes me very excited, which has been like my family.” (translated from Google Translate)

‘Magic Alonso’ has been wary of the challenges that the Renault car represents for the 2021 season. The top teams have shown no signs of decline or slipping down the order. Simultaneously, the bottom teams are cautiously aiming to usurp the midfield battlers.

At such a time, one will wonder how much of an impact the Alpine F1 restructuring will have on 2021. Although everyone within the French manufacturer camp is excited, there are some realities to face. Presently, the biggest concern is that they might not close the gap between themselves and the likes of Mercedes and Red Bull.

Alonso has been building up to his return to F1

The Spanish racer is placing constructive blocks to ease into the team ahead of 2021. Having expressed his excitement on social media, Alonso has had meetings with team management and visited the team factory to familiarize himself with the processes.

Alonso had also earlier stated that he was keen to watch some races this season. Given the activity, it sounds like the day is getting closer where fans can once again hear Alonso sounding out the Renault car’s engine.
