Ferrari is the odds-on favorite going into the 2022 season after a successful 2021 recovery. The Italian team finished P3 in the championship standings after a dismal 2020 campaign. But Ferrari Sporting Director Laurent Mekies mentions that developing the car in 2022 will not be easy.

F1 is introducing new rules and regulations, and the teams would also have to work with a budget cap. Mekies mentioned that there would be minimal development in the cars in the season because of the $140 million budget cap.

It seems difficult from our point of view to have many updates: Ferrari director

As reported by Motorsport, Mekies mentioned the budget cap will restrict the teams to develop their cars massively in the season. He also revealed that the teams may not be able to bring too many updates during the season.

“It seems difficult from our point of view to have a large number of updates with the limits that exist. You need to keep some marks to develop during the season, because you will learn more and more, and you will have to find ways to adjust it. That has been the biggest challenge,” said Mekies.

That’s what we do now. The difficulty is that it depends on the level of competitiveness with respect to the others,” said Laurent.

Ferrari is one of the teams that the budget cap will massively hit as they have a larger workforce. But the Italian team will look to minimize the damage by building a championship-winning car that can return the team to glory days.
