Ferrari F1 Driver Coach Explains Why Mick Mirrors His Father Michael Schumacher

Michael Schumacher is arguably one of the best drivers in the history of Formula 1. The German has seven world championships to his name and was known for his sheer pace and his ability to extract the very best from his car.

Michael retired from the sport in 2010. And 11 years later, his son Mick Schumacher made his debut in F1. The young German has won the F3 and F2 championship with Prema Powerteam and has been superb in his debut season with Haas.

Meanwhile, veteran engineer Jock Clear who previously worked with Michael Schumacher, and has also worked with Mick in the Ferrari driver academy, reveals that Mick reminds him of his father, Michael.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree: Jock Clear

During the F1: Beyond the Grid podcast, when the host Tom Clarkson asked if Mick reminds him of the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher, Jock Clear replied: “He does simply because, you know, the Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”

“He’s so much like his dad, in mannerisms and his accent, and that’s quite enjoyable. And itself that reminds me of good days. You know, I thoroughly enjoyed working with Michael and Mick is similarly such a pleasant young man to deal with.”

“So you know whatever he does in life, he’ll be very well served by just being a top bloke and getting on with people. So I enjoy that aspect in terms of the technical the driving I’d say it’s probably too early,” added the Ferrari F1 driver coach, Jock Clear.

Clear has been impressed by Mick Schumacher’s rookie season in Formula 1

Mick Schumacher has been impressive in his rookie year with Haas this season. The young German has a better average finish position and average grid position than his teammate, Nikita Mazepin.

Meanwhile, when asked if he is pleased by the performance of the Ferrari driver graduate, Mick Schumacher at Haas, Jock Clear replied: “Actually, I’m quite impressed with his out-and-out speed this year, to be honest.”

“I mean people said to me at the beginning of the year ‘Yeah but you know, how he’s going to get on against Mazepin’ and I said, well I wouldn’t be surprised if Mazepin actually starts off out-qualifying him a few times because, you know, Mick takes a while to get up to speed but actually not the case.”
