During the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz Jr had to sit the race out as he had to undergo surgery for appendicitis. This gave a chance to Ferrari Junior driver Oliver Bearman to showcase his skills behind an F1 car. Although the young driver performed surprisingly well in his debut race, Bearman reportedly had to make the impossible happen on a very short notice. Talking about the same, Riccardo Adami, the race engineer for Carlos Sainz Jr opened up about the situation at Ferrari before Oliver Bearman got into the car for the FP3 in Jeddah. Revealing that the team only had a few minutes to get him ready, he explained the process of how the they made it happen.

Oliver Bearman had to deal with a massive influx of information

Oliver Bearman literally had to learn how to handle an F1 cockpit in less than 10 minutes. While it doesn’t sound too hard on paper, the reality is certainly much different. Riccardo Adami came forth to reveal the same as he reminisced trying to explain as much as he could to Bearman at the time. “I tried to provide him the maximum information possible given the as you say the short period of time available,” Adami revealed.

However, it seems that those 5-10 minutes were all that Bearman needed to learn the tricks as he finished 7th in the end, surprising the world and even seasoned veterans. The most astonishing thing was that he started the race at P11, which was a position behind Lewis Hamilton, only to finish at P7, which was one place ahead of the 7-time world champion. This contrast between a new driver and an experienced one has shocked many F1 fans as well who now hope to see him grab a seat on the grid.

While that is yet to be decided, one thing is certain: Bearman has proved himself to be an extraordinary driver, and having him join will bring a lot of excitement and possibly more young fans to the sport. But while there is a lot of hype around Oliver Bearman joining the grid as questions on who will be driving at the Australian Grand Prix keep popping up. However, if you’re still wondering about Sainz Jr, Ferrari team principle Frederic Vasseur revealed if the driver will make a show in Melbourne.

Frederic Vasseur’s say on Carlos Sainz Jr racing in Melbourne

After missing out on a chance to score points at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the Spaniard will definitely be disappointed with his situation. The driver will certainly look to return to the track as soon as he can. Talking about that possibility, Frederic Vasseur spoke to the media and said, “This morning [Saturday], I visited him and he was completely okay. Okay, he has the pain and he is struggling to work, but it’s a huge recovery.”

Answering the question on everyone’s mind, he said, “Now we have to be focused on Melbourne. He needs to have a good rest this week and we’ll see next week.” Although this is not a direct answer, it means that there is still time to know if he is feeling up to the race.
