There is no Formula 1 driver currently on the grid who has made it to the premier class without significant help from his loved ones. It’s the high costs of the feeder series, without which, no driver can progress in the world of motorsport. In this regard, Carlos Sainz Jr. had immense support from his family financially and professionally thanks to his father’s successful and lengthy racing career. Reciprocating the support, the Ferrari man penned down a message for his father amid a difficult Dakar Rally.
Carlos Sainz Sr. is a successful rally driver and has been since 1980. 44 years later, Sainz Sr. is still at it. He is currently in the middle of a Dakar Rally, which he had to withdraw from in 2023, driving an Audi and in the lead after the current stage. The almost 5000-mile race started on the 5th January 2024 and will end on the 19th. Sainz Sr. would look to maintain this lead to clinch his 4th Dakar rally win.

It’s impossible to spectate the entire race from close quarters because such is the nature of rally races. However, sharing his support from afar, Sainz Jr. posted a throwback photo from the 2023 race with his father in the car and expressed his support via the caption.
The caption read, “Although this year we aren’t there physically, we are supporting you in every stage from home. We are very proud of you, of seeing how you keep breaking barriers and outdoing yourself, defending the lead in the toughest rally in the world. Just a few more days to go! 💪🏻”

Sainz was a man reborn in the 2023 season right after the summer break. He was faster than his teammate and even secured two back-to-back poles and the team’s only win in the season. However, the on-track incidents during the race after his son’s first pole at the 2023 Italian GP angered Sainz Sr. and he let his feelings known.
This rare sight of an outspoken Sainz Sr. backing his son was loved by Peter Windsor. “His dad is such a cool guy, and he’s been such a supporter of Carlos, his son, over the years. He was totally into it, but the perfect father, not too involved, just enough to be there when Carlos, the son, needed it,” said Windsor.

We can’t help but agree with Windsor. Sainz Sr. isn’t like every overzealous father who is constantly seeking media attention. Just firing warnings at his son’s team whenever needed.
