This stuff cannot be made up. It just can’t. Monza, Ferrari’s home race, and the Scuderia turned up and delivered the best performance of their season. The man to make the Tifosi’s dreams come true was Carlos Sainz! The Spaniard—who turned 29 yesterday—has been on top of his game throughout the weekend. And on Friday, he was the fastest man on track, giving the Tifosi the hope they so desperately needed. But just as soon as he handed it to them, Sainz quashed it by giving himself and Ferrari a reality check.

He said, “[Being fastest in FP2] does not mean that we will be in pole position tomorrow and that we will win the race on Sunday, but at least the sensations on the car are much better. Can fans dream? Dreaming costs nothing. Especially on these tracks, we can all dream, and nobody takes it away from us.” Oh, wouldn’t he be overjoyed right now because not only did he dare the Tifosi to dream, but he also fulfilled it by qualifying on pole?

The Friday birthday boy received his present today and couldn’t have asked for a better one. To start the Italian GP from P1 in a Ferrari is a dream he’ll fulfill on Sunday, but he’s dreaming of so much more. Even before setting the fastest time during qualifying, the Ferrari boys were already under investigation for not complying with the Race Director’s maximum lap time limit. So, there was always the possibility of getting a penalty.

As soon as Sainz crossed the finish line after his final flying lap and realized he was on top of the time charts, he practically shouted on his radio, saying, “TELL ME WE HAVE IT!!! TELL ME WE HAVE IT!!!” No sooner than he said that did the FIA flash its verdict: “No further investigation.” And it was confirmed. Carlos Sainz would start the Italian GP from pole position.

Expressing the feeling of achieving what he just had, Sainz said, “I’ve had goosebumps ever since I crossed the finish line, and looking at the crowd on the in lap. Seeing all the support and encouragement is the best feeling as an athlete. Tomorrow I’m gonna give it everything to keep P1.” The Spaniard couldn’t have been prouder of his performance, and neither could the Tifosi. They expressed their elation on Twitter.

Carlos Sainz gave Tifosi the “highlight” of the season

After quashing Ferrari fans’ hopes on Friday, the Smooth Operator gave the Tifosi everything they could’ve wished for by securing his first pole since the 2022 US GP. With Max Verstappen right behind him, he knows the challenge that lies ahead. But like he said, he will give everything he can to break Verstappen’s race-winning streak and help his team relive the joy of 2019. Here’s what Ferrari fans had to say about the Sainz.

With Charles Leclerc qualifying P3, this was one of the best qualifying sessions Ferrari has had in a while, and the Tifosi couldn’t be happier.

One fan called it the highlight of their year.

A few fans hoped for the same result for Sunday. A Ferrari win. They expressed how they need the strategists to do their job properly and not mess anything up.

Writing about the FIA conducting no further investigation on Sainz and Leclerc, one fan joked how the stewards did that to leave the track alive.
