⁩Soon after the end of the 2023 F1 season, Max Verstappen announced the departure of his now-former performance coach, Bradley Scanes, who had been a close aide to the Dutchman since the beginning of the F1 career. It was then revealed that Carlos Sainz’s performance coach Rupert Manwaring will leave the Spaniard’s side to replace the void left by Bradley Scanes. As the new year arrived, Carlos Sainz posted an emotional goodbye for his former Performance Coach.

A new year, a new me, and a new beginning are what many people say and believe in come the 1st of January every year. Carlos Sainz seems to do the same as well. On the occasion of New Year’s Eve, as everyone said goodbye to 2023, Carlos Sainz took a moment to say his final goodbye to his former confidant, Rupert Manwaring. While the world of F1 is cutthroat and super professional, an emotional bond is formed every now and then.

That’s the case with Sainz and Manwaring. Looking at Rupert Manwaring’s Instagram, it is clearly visible how much he cherished his time with Sainz. It was almost as if he wasn’t a performance coach, but a family member to the Spaniard. When someone close leaves your side, even though it is him joining a competitor, you would ideally want to wish them the best of luck and cherish all the memorable moments spent together.

Carlos Sainz did the same as he posted a reel on his Instagram containing all the memorable moments he spent with Rupert Manwaring over the years. The caption was a super emotional one as he wrote, “8 years can’t be summed up in one video but here is a little taste of what it has meant! 2023 has been @p1_coach’s last season as part of Team 55 and I wouldn’t know how to thank you for all your work, dedication and support during these years. Not only have we trained, we have fought together for the same goals and we have had lots of fun along the way! I wish you all the best Ruperto!”

Angela Cullen left a void with Lewis Hamilton, and the same might be the case with Carlos Sainz. Let’s see if it will be.

Will Rupert Manwaring leaving have the same effect on Carlos Sainz as it did when Angela Cullen left Lewis Hamilton?

The role that Angela Cullen and Rupert Manwaring played in Hamilton and Sainz’s lives was pretty similar, if not identical. Both Cullen and Manwaring weren’t just another member of the team, but a family member to the driver. It is with the performance coach that a driver spends the most time during a race weekend.

Lewis Hamilton seemed a little down after Angela Cullen left his side. However, before we knew it, Hamilton made a comeback and was stronger than ever. Throughout the 2023 season, the 7X champ kept on getting stronger by the race. While Manwaring’s exit might have a disruption in Sainz’s life to some extent, no long-term effect is expected. The drivers are professionals of the highest class and know what to prioritize, i.e. in this case, racing and winning as much as they can.
