Formula 1 has a rich legacy and history of iconic pieces of engineering. Even leaving the aesthetics aside, Formula 1 cars are a work of art. That being said, as it is with anything of historic importance, the longer it has been, the higher the price it will fetch. It’s no secret that if every F1 fan could, they’d want to get their hands on memorabilia that is nothing short of being F1 royalty. And when it comes to this sport, arguably nothing means greater to the fans and historians than a Ferrari.

It’s not uncommon for F1 cars to be auctioned off nowadays. Hence, we’ve seen a splattering of iconic cars being up for auction. But just imagine being able to own an F1 car. In recent times, two classic F1 beasts, the 1991 Jordan 191 and the 1991 Ferrari 643, have been auctioned by Bonhams and Sotheby’s, respectively. But how did these two cars stack up on the bidding report?

According to FormulaPassion.it, the 643, “was not a winning car, but if you ask a long-time Ferrari driver which Rossa was the most beautiful, many will answer the Ferrari 643,  [The 643] was put up for sale in Paris, in the Salles du Carrousel of the Louvre, in an auction organized by RM Sotheby’s, for the “modest” sum of 3,661,250 euros ($3.86 million).” [translated via Google Translate] And the bidder got all the works for that sum!

Driven by Jean Alesi, the auctioned car was “still in full working order: it has a 3.5-liter V12 engine that produces over 710 horsepower. The chassis is 127, brought to the track at Magny-Cours, Silverstone and Adelaide. The French driver’s best results that season with the 643 were third places at Hockenheim and Estoril.”

On the other hand, Michael Schumacher‘s Jordan 191, however, was left in the dust by the 643!

As per GPFans, the 643 was “the second high-profile sale of a 1991 F1 car in Paris this month after Michael Schumacher’s debut Jordan 191 sold for €1.3million [$1.4 million] through Bonhams. But Alesi’s Ferrari sold for much more, fetching €3.66million [$3.86 million] through RM Sotheby’s.”
