After Lewis Hamilton won his seventh championship, discussions of a knighthood honor started taking place. In an interview after the Turkish GP, he revealed what it would mean for him to receive such an honor.

He clarified that he does not think about it, stating that he still has a lot of work to do. Hamilton talked about several heroes out there who deserve the honor. “I don’t look at myself as an unsung hero. I’ve never saved anybody,” he said.

However, reports suggest Hamilton will receive a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of his achievements in 2020. According to the reports, “Hamilton will be named in the Queen’s new year’s honours list, which will make him known formally as Sir Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton has been on the list once before. After the Briton’s sensational championship win with McLaren in 2008, he was awarded the honor of ‘Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire’ (MBE).

Lewis Hamilton was personally recommended by Boris Johnson

Reports claim that the British Prime Minister personally recommended him for his achievements. Meanwhile, Hamilton has also been actively involved in social service. Hamilton was in a controversial tax affair implication; however, he was given the green light as everything was found in order.

According to the reports, “The 35-year-old racer, worth an estimated £250million and resident in tax haven Monaco, will be given his gong in the New Year after his finances got the green light from the Government’s Honors Committee.”

It is a rare honor for a Formula 1 driver. The knighthood is yet to be announced officially. However, Hamilton is finally getting recognized for his stance on equality and environmental issues. He has used his fame as a catalyst for positive change in society and fully deserves this honor.
