The new season couldn’t have started better for Ferrari. The Reds go into Bahrain with P1 and P3 in their bag. With Charles Leclerc leading the charge from Pole, Jacques Villeneuve’s favorite Carlos Sainz, to follow him from P3.

Former F1 driver Villeneuve believes Carlos has a very good chance to win the driver’s championship this season. With Ferrari back on form, he can do finally set his sight on winning the much-coveted title, Jacques thinks.

When asked about the potential F1 champion this year, Villeneuve stated that he’d put his money on the young Spaniard. However, the Canadian emphasized the driver equality in Ferrari and said it can be a disadvantage unlike Red Bull and Mercedes.

Talking about this, the 1997 F1 champion conveyed on Sainz, “Last year he proved to be very calm, complete, even if he doesn’t have the speed of Leclerc. But perhaps the explanation for that is that, without a winning Ferrari in his hands, Charles tended to overdo it.”

This is the 27-year-old’s second season with the Italian outfit. “Now, definitely with a fast car, I am convinced that he will drive more calmly. Who knows if a battle between the two of them will open up now.”, the Canadian international further asserted.

Ferrari has claimed P3 from McLaren last season and is already on their way to give Mercedes and Red Bull a run for their money this time around.
