The 2022 Formula One season is right around the corner. The sport will introduce new regulations and a budget cap for the teams to work under. With new regulations, fans expect the grid to be much closer and have better racing. A change in the pecking order in the teams at the start of the 2022 season is also predicted.

Interestingly, former world champion Jenson Button believes Mercedes will still be the team to beat and the championship fight would be between Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.

Button awaits Lewis Hamilton-George Hamilton partnership

As reported by GPBlog, he believes it would be tough for other teams to beat the mighty Mercedes. To beat the world champions, a team needs to have a faster package than them and make fewer mistakes.

“I have to say, Mercedes. I think Red Bull were strong last year, but throughout the season Mercedes got closer and closer and they overtook them on outright pace.

Then it’s the fight between Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, which I really cannot wait for. Two Brits in Mercedes cars fighting for a World Championship, hopefully,” said Button.

He also believes that Ferrari will have a better 2022 season.“Ferrari are the one who made the biggest step forward, I would say, so possibly Ferrari with their great driver line-up.

But then again, so does McLaren, and I think it’s a really exciting team. I was with them at a peak and then it dropped away and now it’s great to see them come fighting back to be at the front,” said the former world champions.

Hopefully, there will be some teams like Red Bull, Ferrari, and McLaren who can challenge the German team. It would be really fun to see a championship decided in a three-way or a four-way battle till the end.
