The 2021 season will go down as one of the greatest seasons in Formula one history. The championship fight between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen was decided on the last lap of the season. Both drivers gave their best throughout the season and pushed each other to new limits.

But the championship between the drivers got a bit heated during the last phase. There was some animosity between them and their teams, Mercedes and Red Bull, that resulted in some harsh comments. The hostile nature also transferred to the fans, who would boo the drivers when they did something wrong. Former F1 driver, Christijan Albers, stated that booing does not belong to the sport.

I think it is really terrible: Former F1 driver on Lewis Hamilton-Max Verstappen

As reported by Planetf1, Albers stated that motorsport is different from football and booing does not represent F1. It is understandable from the fan’s perspective to support their driver but it is disrespectful to boo their rivals.

“Again, with qualifying, there was shouting. In all the years that I have been active in motorsport, that has never happened. Once, in Austria, in the year that Barrichello had to let Schumacher pass,” said Albers.

“Motorsport is not like football. We are fans of everyone, of course, a little more of Max Verstappen, but this does not belong in motorsport. I think it is really terrible,” said the former F1 driver.

Albers is right in calling out the fans for their inappropriate behavior last season. It is highly disrespectful for drivers to get booed by the fans in an intense championship fight. Hopefully, in the 2022 season, we will see a more respectful crowd at the tracks and showcase their support for all drivers.
