The relationship between Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari never really worked out. Vettel arrived at the Maranello based outfit as a four-time world champion.  He would have hoped to catch up with the record set by Michael Schumacher. However, 5 disappointing years later the German is all set to leave without adding to his tally. Charles Leclerc’s immediate success didn’t help his cause either. Now he finds himself without a team for 2021.

The former F1 driver, Jean Alesi has his say on why this partnership was destined to fail.

“Michael Schumacher got the technical team to work as he liked unlike Vettel”- Alesi

Sky Sports interviewed the former Ferrari racer. He draws a parallel between Schumacher’s success at Ferrari and Vettel’s disappointment. Alesi said,” Michael Schumacher took my place but he arrived with a full technical team. He worked with the same people he used to work (with at Benetton) to be a world champion. It took him four years to be world champion, but it happened.”

Comparing that to Vettel, he said, “ Sebastian’s situation was different. He arrived in a team and he tried to teach and to bring the technical team to work as he wants. But he didn’t bring with him Adrian Newey, so that changed a lot.”

Adrian Newey is currently the chief technical officer at the Red Bull F1 team. His car designs saw Vettel win four world driver’ championships on the trot. It also was Red Bulls’ most successful period in F1. They won 4 constructors’ championships back to back as well.

Comparing Schumacher’s time at Ferrari to Vettel’s is like comparing last year’s Mercedes car to the Williams one. The only similarity in their moves to Ferrari was that they came to the Maranello based outfit with world championship titles on their CV. However, only one of them left Ferrari after winning 5 back to back championships and finished his career as the greatest racing driver ever to be seen in Formula One.
