The Abu Dhabi saga doesn’t seem to cool down anytime soon. In the title-deciding 2021 Abu Dhabi GP, Lewis Hamilton was leading the race for pretty much the whole period. However, one controversial call from Michael Masi changed everything; the decision during the safety car period pretty much handed the title to Max Verstappen. Unsurprisingly, many fans believe Verstappen only won because of race director Michael Masi’s controversial decision.

Soon after the Abu Dhabi race, the FIA started investigating the matter; further, the governing body of F1 recently removed Masi from his position after a thorough investigation. FIA now plans to establish a new structure to monitor a race and shift Masi to a different position.

However, it was not enough to please everyone. Many fans want the FIA to overturn the 2021 season finale results. Recently, Karun Chandhok revealed that taking the title away from Max would be an injustice. Chandhok said, “I don’t believe the result should be overturned.

“I think there are too many variables involved in that process just to clearly say ‘if the lapped cars had been left there, Lewis would have 100% won’. I don’t think you can definitively say that,” Chandhok claimed.

Fans should keep an eye on the Barcelona pre-season testing which would reveal what the RB18 offers for the upcoming challenge. Also, it would be really interesting to watch Max Verstappen, who needs to prove himself once again and even more than in the past. Since many F1 fans believe he only won because of Masi’s late-race safety car fiasco, he would be eager to prove that this title was well deserved.
