Former Ferrari Chairman Hopes ‘Superhero’ Michael Schumacher Can Participate in Son Mick’s F1 Exploits

While Lewis Hamilton grabs the headlines as the greatest driver of this era, in the eyes of traditional F1 fans, Michael Schumacher is the original ‘GOAT’.

His tenure at Ferrari is the stuff of legends, where he formed the ‘Dream Team’ along with others like Jean Todt to clinch 5 successive World Titles.

And the man who presided over the company at that time was Luca di Montezemolo. Naturally, he formed an unbreakable bond with the German, “Michael was the superhero at Ferrari. He was by far the best driver in Ferrari’s history.”

Like all of us, his heart melts when he thinks about his tragic skiing accident. So, when he heard about his son’s move into F1, it was the first thing that came to his mind.

“I can only hope that Michael can participate in the success of his son at home and that it is a great satisfaction for him what his son has achieved,” said Luca di Montezemolo in an exclusive interview with ‘Sport Bild’.

Mick Schumacher’s glorious F2 campaign with Prema Racing earned him a seat in F1. Although some people feel that his name earned him a drive rather than his racing ability, the Italian business magnate strongly refutes that suggestion. “The name is not enough to win, there is more to it.”

If he were to directly make a move to Ferrari, it would have been too much to handle. But because he will race for one of the minnows in Haas, it will give ample time and space to find his feet.

“It’s good that Haas lets him drive in a team from the second row and without pressure. It is important that he grows there, gains experience, and makes progress,” said the former Ferrari chairman.

Mick will make his official debut in Bahrain, which serves as the season-opener on March 28th. Incidentally, it is also the same track where his father made his F1 return with Mercedes in 2010. He simply can’t avoid these comparisons, can he?!
