Former Haas driver Kevin Magnussen is open to a return to Formula 1 particularly if it’s Mercedes or Red Bull. The Danish driver came up through the ranks of the McLaren’s Young Driver Programme and drove for them in 2014, before a brief spell with Renault in 2016. Magnussen drove for Haas from 2017 until the end of the 2020 season.
Although he wants to drive for Mercedes or Red Bull, he himself believes it’s quite unlikely for Mercedes or Red Bull team principals to be ringing him up.
Meanwhile, Magnussen’s comments suggest that he is not desperate to make his comeback and rather happy to compete in the 2021 Weather tech Sportscar Championship.

What did Kevin Magnussen say about his Mercedes & Red Bull chances?
“If I had a Mercedes or a Red Bull, I wouldn’t say no. I don’t think many racing drivers would, but that’s not going to happen,” said Kevin Magnussen.
“As I said before, I’m very, very happy with the opportunity that I had in Formula 1. Not many people get to have that many years in Formula 1. I’m super happy about that and I had some great experiences. Having said that, I feel fresh motivation, and I feel like it’s fun again.”

But there were some promising signs from the Haas rookies as they secured their best finish in F1 at Baku, with Mick Schumacher finishing at P13 and Nikita Mazepin finishing at P14.

“I feel for them. They’re great people. I have many friends and they’re kind of like family to me so, I feel for them,” said Kevin Magnussen.
He added, “But I’m sure it’s going to get better for them when these new rules come in. There will reset basically all the teams. Of course, it’s still going to be the big teams at the front, but I hope it’s going to be a little closer.”
