Having won 6 World Championship titles, Mercedes F1’s Lewis Hamilton has never been short of gaining plaudits. The Briton has, obviously, never been short on the ‘talent’ side of things either, but what makes him so good is the fact that he has the determination to match his talent too.

Something which Andy Cowell, the former Managing Director of High-Performance Powertrains at Mercedes, concurs with.

Moreover, according to Cowell, Hamilton doesn’t let his competitive spirit make him come across as a cocky individual. Lewis knows the limits of each person and can get his point across without being rude.

Cowell said, “Lewis is the best. The outstanding natural talent and that inquisitive curiosity and tenacity. He’ll push for progress and push people to hear his viewpoints in a nice way.

“And as an individual, he’s not  competitive to the point of being nasty and there are some individuals on the planet who push competitiveness to the point where it bubbles over to just not being sporting.”

Combine all of Lewis’ personality traits with his incredible racing skills and you’ve got yourselves a phenomenal athlete. The amount of success that he has had is simply stupefying.

According to Cowell, this makes Hamilton a brilliant role model to look up to.

He said, “Lewis is a true sportsman and motivator of the team. An outstanding talent. His exemplary performance makes everybody look up and go, ‘I need to be operating my game at that level.”

Be it on the track or off of it, Lewis certainly is someone people can look up to. His incredibly dedicated and hard-working personality was evident ever since his first day as a Formula 1 driver, something which former McLaren mechanic, Marc Priestley can attest to.

After over a decade of success, inspiring thousands if not millions, Hamilton now stands on the cusp of equaling Michael Schumacher’s record of 7 World Championship titles.

It looks unlikely that anyone on the grid will be able to deny him this, his birthright as it seems. By the time Hamilton calls it quits, he may very well be lauded as the greatest F1 driver of all time.
