Many tout Lando Norris as the next world champion in waiting in Formula One. The young British driver impressed everyone with his driving in the 2021 season. Now the McLaren legend and former world champion Emerson Fittipaldi has also mentioned that Norris is a “potential world champion.”
The 22-year-old is arguably one of the best drivers on the grid right now. He outperformed his teammate Daniel Ricciardo last season in the same car on the basis of pure pace. Aside from this, Fittipaldi also shared his thoughts on the upcoming race and how it might fare for the McLaren team.

The British team has had a tough start to their 2022 season. But they have somewhat turned things around through their P5 and P6 finish in Australia.
Former McLaren legend explains why he rates Lando Norris so highly
Norris consistently shows his pace in the qualifying session of the weekend. He delivers noteworthy laps every time he steps into the car. He once again dragged more performance out of the car than it was possible in the first 3 races of the season.
Expressing his opinion about Norris and McLaren, Fittipaldi said, “I think Lando Norris has already established himself as what I would call a potential world champion. Norris and Daniel Ricciardo will be very strong again this weekend, no doubt. They have the potential to get on the podium at Imola.”.

“I was at McLaren in Jeddah and Zak Brown confirmed that they will continue to improve from race to race. Over the next four to five Grands Prix, McLaren are going to get stronger and stronger. They were arguably the most impressive team in Australia,” said the former world champion.

It is certainly interesting to hear Fittipaldi’s thoughts on McLaren’s performance this season. The team has massively underperformed at the beginning of the season, but it is nice to see the former world champion have confidence in his former team.
The team is certainly coming from 2 good weekends in Jeddah and Melbourne, where they manage to score points. It would be interesting to see if they continue their good form in Imola where they will again get 2 chances to score points.
