‘Formula One Is Ferrari’ – Ex-F1 CEO Ecclestone Reveals Enzo Ferrari’s Game-Changing Advice

In discussions that involve going back in time to the early days of F1, Scuderia Ferrari is a name that undoubtedly crops up. The man responsible for the formation of the team was Mr. Enzo Ferrari, who, till date, is widely regarded as an icon of the sport.

Mr. Enzo, a racing driver himself, faced quite a few struggles as a professional, and later during the construction of his team. Over the years, he encountered those situations with an insightful mind coupled with an immense fighting spirit.

Recently, in an interview, former F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone was asked who he admired the most. He briefly spoke about the founder of the Scuderia Ferrari team and a key lesson he imbibed from him.

Enzo Ferrari helped me a lot, said Bernie Ecclestone

The 90-year-old said, “Mr [Enzo] Ferrari. He was very special and he helped me a lot.

“He taught me that the sport is on the table and the business is under it. Formula One is Ferrari and Ferrari is Formula One. It’s that simple.”

Even after Ferrari’s entry into the FIA Formula 1 world championship, the team did not instantly become victors. However, with time and investment of efforts, Mr. Enzo made sure he built the right foundation and processes that led to the outfit’s success over the decades.

“Colin [Chapman] was another. He was a genius. A very quick driver too,” concluded Ecclestone.

Somewhere in the back of the minds of the present-day team management at Maranello, they must be troubled with their performances in the last few seasons. With the past decade belonging to the likes of Red Bull and Mercedes, it has been hard for the team to catch up.

Even until early 2019 or so, Ferrari looked to challenge Mercedes in pursuit of race victories and podiums. But since the turn of last year, the dip in their form has been enormous, which they will have to resurrect.

That said, F1 has a reputation for seeing the tides of fortune change quicker than one can realize. And if there is one team that can transform itself, built on the strong principles of its founder, it would be Scuderia Ferrari.
