“41 and Still Slaying”: Fernando Alonso Showing His Class in Bahrain Leaves the F1 World Rooting for the Veteran Champ

The Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin hype train really got going since pre-season testing last week. Then came the Bahrain GP weekend, and Alonso was relentless in Free Practice. The Spaniard topped both FP2 and FP3. Every single Formula 1 fan on this planet was on the edge of their seat for qualifying. Even though the Aston Martin of Alonso wasn’t good enough for a front-row place, he finished an impressive P5.
The hype died down a bit. But you can never count the 2x champion out when he’s at the sharp end of the field with a car good enough to challenge the top runners. The race start wasn’t the dream start he would’ve been hoping for, as he fell down the ladder. But he stuck to his guns, and his talent quickly showed as he climbed up through the grid. As the Grand Prix came to its dying embers, the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc gave up on the Monegasque, bringing out the Virtual Safety Car. This put Alonso in a prime position to challenge Carlos Sainz for the last podium place, on fresher hard tires. And he did it!
