Fernando Alonso has turned a corner in his 2021 season. He finished 6th in an eventful Azerbaijan Grand Prix and pulled off some amazing overtaking moves. In the season’s start, the 2-time world champion was struggling to settle into the sport after a hiatus of two years.

Initially, Alonso could not challenge his young teammate Esteban Ocon in the races. But at Baku, the Spaniard was a dominant force as he out-qualified and outraced the Frenchman.

Just like Alonso, Alpine have also been inconsistent in the first 6 races. They have been at the tail end of the top 10 and have yet to show their true pace in this season. Alpine will look forward to their home race next weekend at Paul Ricard.

On his return to Paul Ricard, Alonso said, “I always like to race in France. I’ve had some good results in Formula 1 and other motorsport categories in this country, but the Paul Ricard circuit is actually a track that I don’t know so well as I have only raced here once in Formula 1.”

When asked about Paul Ricard as a circuit he said,” The circuit has quite a some high-speed sections and Turn 10 will be fun in these modern Formula 1 cars. There are plenty of escape routes around the circuit, meaning any mistakes will be less serious, as they are less likely to be punished by barriers.”
