“We are checking,” had become synonymous with Ferrari’s cluelessness as Charles Leclerc’s race engineer Xavi or Xavier Marcos Padros always replied with these three words when asked vital questions that too, even during the most intense times on the track. Though Xavi got replaced mid-season, the radio horrors haven’t stopped.

Ferrari had the most forgettable weekend at the Canadian GP. And the miseries that began on Saturday have poured in on Sunday as well. Leclerc, who was visibly furious during the media interaction after a disastrous quali, was welcomed by an engine problem on the race day. What probably added to his frustrations were the ambiguous replies from his new engineer, almost echoing the horrors of the old ones.

During the race, Charles asked, “How much am I losing down the straight?” To which his race engineer, Bryan Bozzi replied, “Quite a bit, but keep pushing.” Suffering from the ghosts of the past, Charles replied angrily, “I don’t want this answer when I’m asking. Please tell me.” Bryan: “Half a second.” And then there were no words after that.

“For fuck’s sake” Infuriated, Charles Leclerc gives Ferrari a piece of his mind

Leclerc had to retire his car due to pilling issues with his race. From bad qualifying to engine problems and then putting on soft tires when the entire grid was in intermediate tires. Before retiring his car as he was being blue-flagged throughout the circuit, he vocalized his raw emotions on the very public radio exchange.

Bryan to Leclerc “Rain is clearing.” To which Charles replied, “Yeah, but the track is too wet.” By this time Charles was already infuriated and he said, “For fuck’s sake…If we are losing 1.5 seconds on the straight, then there’s no fucking point. I want to stop. Otherwise, let’s put inters and drive normal.”

He did stop, and the race ended for him and later on lap 52 even Carlos Sainz’s race also came to an end.
