What if someone tells you that you must ask permission before you express an opinion? One will undoubtedly be furious. In a similar vein, the FIA has now prohibited all drivers, including those in the F1 category, from making political, religious, or personal declarations without first seeking permission from the relevant regulating organizations. For those who are cognizant, like Lewis Hamilton, this is undoubtedly not good news.

The FIA has just amended its international sporting code, which will come into effect starting from the 2023 season. According to article 12.2.1.n, “The general making and display of political, religious and personal statements or comments notably in violation of the general principle of neutrality promoted by the FIA under its Statutes, unless previously approved in writing by the FIA for International Competitions, or by the relevant ASN for National Competitions within their jurisdiction.”

The code was altered in light of drivers’ personal comments making headlines previously. The first two drivers that come to mind when we consider such drivers are Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel, both of whom have frequently voiced their opinions in public.

And now that the FIA has introduced this new policy, the F1 fans don’t seem to have taken it too well since there are a lot of comments about it. Fans took things to Twitter to make their comments on the governing body’s questionable action.

Twitter F1 fans are upset with FIA which could now prevent Lewis Hamilton from expressing his opinions.

In the past, Hamilton has been spotted speaking out against social injustices on multiple occasions. One classic example would include the British racer standing on the podium at the Tuscan Grand Prix in Mugello in 2020, wearing a T-shirt that read, “Arrest the cops who killed Breonna Taylor.” Though FIA claims that it made the changes to the regulations after giving them great thought. Fans, however, have perceived it as a transparent attempt to prevent the outspoken Lewis Hamilton and other racers from commenting on anything.

This revelation has generated a stir on social media, where fans can be seen commenting. Some of the replies are included below.
