Pierre Gasly won his first Formula 1 race at Monza. The highlight of Gasly’s career, his win proved to be one of the best moments of the season. It was unexpected, career-changing, and more than anything, redeeming.

Red Bull replaced Gasly with Alexander Albon mid-season to drive alongside Max Verstappen back in 2019. The move was hurtful and humiliating for him, as Red Bull demoted Gasly back to AlphaTauri. Meanwhile, the Frenchman redeemed himself with a win this season. A feat that even his replacement in Red Bull could not achieve.

After a great season, Gasly was asked about whether he could go toe to toe with Verstappen now. He said, “I think I would have my chance in the same car. But it’s a lot more complicated than that. I know my skills.”

“If I have the right car, like this year, I can do really well. I showed that. Also last year – for example with the podium and consistent points results. I’ll keep going full throttle so that I get my chance. Because my goal in Formula 1 is to become world champion. That’s what I work for,” he added.

Gasly was launched to Red Bull’s seat during his second year on the grid. It was a surprising move, and the pressure of going against Max Verstappen proved too much to handle for Gasly. He said, “Now I’m doing much better. Objectively speaking, I’m a better driver. More constant, with more experience.”

Gasly helped AlphaTauri to their best season in Formula 1. They were in the top five a few times this year and they will want to increase that number. Meanwhile, Gasly expects to come out much stronger next year.

In Formula 1, a driver with experience is more competitive on the grid. The time also allows the driver to understand the car, the team, and the circuits. Pierre Gasly will be better prepared next season as he takes the positive momentum from this season to 2021.
