The 2020 season became a bit of a breakthrough campaign for him. Although he majorly drove for Williams, the 22-year-old got a glorious opportunity to race for Mercedes in place of Lewis Hamilton in the Sakhir GP.

Naturally, he grabbed the chance with both hands. He showed the Mercedes management he can become the heir to one of their cockpits. Not just from a racecraft perspective, but also with his positive attitude and calm personality.

Russell explained his demeanor during practices, qualifying sessions, and races. He believes that more than anybody else’s praise or criticism, he himself is his biggest critic.

I am my biggest critic, explains Williams’ George Russell

Speaking in an interview, Russell stated, “I’m honest with myself, I know when there’s a bit more time in there.”

“When I watch a lap of Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen and I see what they’re achieving, I know if I’ve managed to do similar or if I’m a bit away from them. I’m my biggest critic.

Since his championship-winning season in the F2 division, Russell has not had much success in the premier motorsport league. Despite the eventual heartbreak, his points finish in Sakhir meant a lot more to him and his fans.
