Formula One drivers often spend time away from their family, as they are traveling the world. However, during the lockdown, while the F1 season had an uncertainty looming over it, drivers got to spend quality time with their families. And George Russell is no different as the Brit spent time with his parents and siblings back home in England.

The parents of the young Williams driver are Alison and Steve Russell, while George is the youngest sibling alongside his sister, Cara, and his brother, Benjy.

George isn’t the only Russell in the family interested in racing

Many would assume that George was the first one in the family to get interested in racing. However, his older brother, Benjy also took part in karting championships.

While his sister Cara didn’t invest herself in motorsports but is constantly backing her little brother as he competes in F1, regularly showing her support through social media

Not much is known about Russell’s parents, Alison and Steve, but they have shown their support for their son, right from his karting days till the time he found himself competing in the pinnacle of motorsport.

The Brit reveals his family’s heartbreak at Sakhir last year

When the then 22-year-old was asked to fill in for Lewis Hamilton as a one-off in Bahrain last year, it is understandable that his family was proud. However, it didn’t turn the way Russell would have wanted, and had to settle for a ninth-place finish. The British driver stated that his mom and sister were devastated by how the race panned out.

He said, “My mum was in tears, bless her, afterwards, and my sister as well. We live this together, this sport, and it’s so passionate, emotions are so high.”

“This was my first opportunity not just to win but to actually score points, and that was such a big difference. Having that taken away from us not once, but twice, was difficult.”

“Having time to reflect on that weekend I’ve left with my head held high and (I’m) proud of the job I managed to achieve last weekend, Russell concluded.

However, after the recent race in Budapest, it would be certain that George’s family would have shed tears of happiness, as the Williams driver along with Nicholas Latifi helped the team bag double points.
