George Russell recently opened up about his famous antic at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, 2021. While Russell locked up and hit Bottas on lap 32, he could not stop cussing at Bottas as if it was his fault.

In a fit of rage, Russell got out of his car and gave one of the most iconic moments in F1 history. Well, thankfully, he only hit Valtteri Bottas’ helmet back then, and not his face.

George Russell reflects back

Fans watched Russell, puzzled as he took long strides to reach Bottas‘ Mercedes, sitting severely damaged on the gravel. In those moments nobody could understand what was the Britishers’ anger all about when clearly he was at fault.

It was uncommon for Russell to display such unprofessionalism. Many feel that his anger was a buildup of intensely wanting that Silver Arrows’ seat. Funnily enough, Bottas was his main rival, standing in the path to his glory.

As the words ” biggest mistake of his career” flashed before his eyes, the young driver described, “I think I learned a huge amount from that error.” He further went on to type, “One that an F1 car can catch you out at any moment, and you need to be on it every single second, but two, dealing with disappointments.”

He reflected on the mistake he made back then, as he spoke maturely about it. It was good to see George not only understand the issue but also describe how life is a learning curve. Well, all is well between him and Valtteri now, and unsurprisingly, the talented driver drives for Mercedes F1 now.
