George Russell Jokes About a Move to McLaren F1 – “As Long as it’s Fast”

The future of George Russell is the most discussed topic in F1 right now. The Williams driver is out of contract at the end of the season. Russell is a part of the Mercedes driver academy and is expected to join the German team for the next season.

Everyone expected Russell would announce his Mercedes deal at the British Grand Prix. But the British driver and Mercedes have denied signing any contract and agreeing to any deal. But Russell has assured everyone that he would have a Mercedes engine in his car for the next season.

So in 2022, I will be racing with McLaren: George Russell

As reported by Formula Passion, at the press conference ahead of the British Grand Prix, Russell joked he would race for McLaren in 2022. Mercedes is the power unit supplier to McLaren.

I am a driver managed by Mercedes and this means that in 2022 I will be in a Mercedes-powered car. So in 2022, I will be racing with McLaren,” joked George Russell.

The British driver has expressed his intentions to race at the front. He also stated that he just wants a competitive car for the 2022 season to showcase his skills on race days.

“I don’t care what my car will be in 2022, as long as it’s fast – added Russell – I really want to win and give my best at the wheel of a competitive car,” said the Williams driver.

The British Grand Prix at Silverstone will welcome a packed capacity crowd during the weekend. This will be the first time since the beginning of 2020 that F1 will have all 3 days capacity crowds.

Russell has also expressed his excitement to race in front of crowds. “I am really excited for my home race and to have all the British fans back will be an incredible experience.
