When Lewis Hamilton is not racing in Formula 1, he loves to engage in adventure sports. Surfing and skydiving are among his most loved activities that keep his adrenaline flowing. While George Russell kept himself away from the giant waves before joining Mercedes, it did not take Lewis too long to drag his new teammate into the waters.
In an interview ahead of the Australian GP this year, Lewis Hamilton joked about how his ex-teammate Valtteri Bottas was an “old soul”. He did not accompany him in any adrenaline-filled activities. And to be fair, even George Russell was uninitiated to the ocean, but it did not take long for Hamilton to turn him into a surfer.
Speaking with Tara Rushton from 10 Sport, Lewis told, “George has been great. He’s got a real vibrance around him. He’s a very positive, constructive, hard worker. We were surfing together just recently. He came surfing with us the other day, he never surfed. So, I’ve got him in the pool and I think he’s got the bug now.”

Praising his teammate for his positivity, he said, “in general, just within the organization, it’s a real positive energy here. And we’re just, as I said, just really focused together as a team, believing that we can overcome the issues and challenges we have.”
Modern F1 drivers take their fitness very seriously. They have all got rigorous training regimes that they follow religiously. While the off-season is the time to let go, they still keep themselves disciplined. As driving an F1 car keeps the adrenaline flowing, they crave some activities to keep it going during the off-season.

Lewis Hamilton explained why he engages himself in adventurous activities
Lewis Hamilton appeared in a Showtime interview with Desus & Mero last year. He narrated his experiences at the Met Gala and talked about his rivalry with Max Verstappen, among other things. What caught our attention was when he told them about the thrilling activities he loves.
“I love surfing. I skydive, love skydiving,” Hamilton revealed. When asked whether he was an adrenaline junkie, Lewis told, “Yeah, you basically have to substitute it. Because the races. You’re on this massive high and when you come after the race, the next couple of days, you’re just crashing down. Then you hit a low. Then you have to pick yourself back up. You’re back into training. So I usually fill it in with things, fun activities in between training.”

For us mere mortals, driving an F1 car would probably be an activity that gives us enough adrenaline rush for days. Apparently not so much for Sir Lewis Hamilton.
