The ex- F1 Dutch driver, Jan Lammers, was asked to pick his favorite moment from the 2020 season. The former driver acknowledged Pierre Gasly and Sergio Perez’s first career win but eventually chose George Russell’s one weekend stand with Mercedes.

He said, “I choose George Russell, especially because he answers the most frequently asked question: ‘Is this Mercedes really that good?'”

“Even though he was very unlucky in that race, he showed how important the material is. For a real image you have to put Max on that Mercedes and also Lewis Hamilton on Red Bull. Does anyone still doubt who will win in such a situation?” he added.

Lammers looks back at the 2020 season

From an impending cancellation of the season to completing a 17-race season successfully, the 2020 Formula 1 season was a rollercoaster. Few aspects concerning the title win remained unchanged. However, we did see some stellar performances by a few other drivers.

“I think it was a beautiful year full of surprises. Gasly and Pérez’s wins, as well as Hamilton’s flat-tire victory at Silverstone … Max’s performance in Abu Dhabi was the cream of the cake,” Lammers summarised the beautiful season.

However, as mentioned above, Lammers’s pick of the season was clear. Russell claimed his first career points driving for Mercedes in Sakhir Grand Prix. He will continue to drive for Williams next season.

The Briton came close to scoring his first points for Williams at Imola, however; he failed to cross the finish line. He consistently performed beyond expectations last season and hopefully will continue to do the same in 2021. Do you think Russell will claim his first points with Williams this season?
