“Getting 50K Penalty for That” – F1 Fans React to a Fan’s Crazy Ayrton Senna Stunt

There are many Formula 1 fans that express their love for the sport with posts, tattoos, and even merch. And then are some F1 fans who really go all the way. Recently, F1 journalist and ardent Ayrton Senna fan Joe Saward affixed the legend’s Lotus monocoque on his ceiling.

Fans were stunned at the unique home decor. While it was exceptional, many opposed the placement of the car.

The memes came tumbling in; some even referred to the moments of the 2021 F1 season.

Ayrton Senna in a Lotus

A highlight of Senna’s F1 career was his shift to Lotus. After his debut in 1984, Senna shifted to Lotus in 85. Senna fought for victories immediately in Formula 1. He stayed with the Enstone team till 1987 with six wins, 22 podium finishes, and 16 pole positions.

A memorable moment in the black jumpsuit of Lotus was Senna’s maiden victory at the 1985 Portuguese GP. The legend has many iconic wins on his list: including the 1986 Spanish GP. Senna put his Lotus first on the line, just 0.014 seconds clear of Nigel Mansell’s Williams machine. The Brazilian had already been on pole position and led for a stunning 49 laps at Jerez.

Mr. Monaco‘s successes with Lotus wouldn’t be complete without a mention of the 1987 Monaco GP. Sitting at P2, Senna accompanied Mansell in the front row of the race. On Sunday, Mansell had maintained his lead for 29 laps and was forced to retire due to his Honda engine problems.

Thus, the lead was Senna’s, and he dominated the final 49 laps to the finish line at the Principality, pushing his Lotus to take the fastest lap of the race. Further, he finished 33 seconds ahead of Nelson Piquet, his closest challenger. This marked the first of Senna’s six wins at the exemplary circuit.
