It is no secret how much Max Verstappen loves racing. While drivers like Lewis Hamilton took the weekend off to watch LeBron James take on Steph Curry, the Dutchman participated in the virtual 24-hour Nurburgring race. For a change, it turns out that wasn’t his first choice, as he had to be somewhere with his girlfriend, Kelly Piquet. But his commitment to the “greater good” stopped him from doing that.

Team Redline is a venture Verstappen is a part of. The team has a bunch of talented simulator drivers who participate in virtual racing events. Being among the best of the best, not just in IRL racing but in virtual as well, the 2x Champion is an integral part of the team. During the live streaming of the 24-hour Nurburgring, he shared many anecdotes, including the one about his maiden WDC trophy, which got fans emotional. However, Verstappen canceled attending an important event for the race.

Just like the 25-year-old, most of his Redline teammates are pretty young. Some are still studying and have exams to appear for. Turns out, one of his teammates, Chris, had his exams coming up and Verstappen had to fill in for him. What did he miss for it? A wedding he was supposed to attend with Kelly Piquet.

In the live stream, the Red Bull driver said, “Guys, I’m doing this race because Chris was complaining he had too many exams to participate in. I canceled a wedding for it. I love sim racing but sometimes you have to think about the greater good… It’s not my wedding… I mean, that would be quite difficult to explain, I think… ‘Can we just cancel it?'”

F1 bosses had the time of their lives at Chloe Stroll’s wedding

Chloe Stroll married her long-time boyfriend, Scotty James. The 28-year-old is also an Olympic medal-winning skateboarder who, through his Australian roots, also happens to be a great friend of Daniel Ricciardo. The duo is so close that the Honey Badger was one of James’ groomsmen. Anyway, he wasn’t the only one in attendance.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff and wife Susie Wolff were there as well. So was F1 boss Stephano Domenicali and former Renault manager Flavio Briatore. The after-party took place on a luxury yacht to which they all made their way through a boat. At least, that is what one of the pictures posted by Flavio suggests.
