Formula 1 is one of the most intense and high-pressure sports in the world. The pressures of F1 often break drivers every few years but it’s not always as bad. There are times when F1 drivers have fun even during the race weekends. Alpine’s newest part-owner and golf legend Rory McIlroy showcased that during his visit to the Circuit of the Americas. The North Irish golfer spent time with the Alpine men Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly and their meeting sparked a hilarious explicit pun contest.

On Sunday, Rory McIlroy made his way to the COTA to check up on his latest investment. The Estone-based outfit welcomed the new part-owner with open arms and set up a small event for him and the Alpine men. The event saw McIlroy compete with Esteban Ocon and Gasly for a game of putts. To level the playing field Ocon and Gasly got a bigger hole for the putt whereas the golf champ had to make the smaller hole to compete.

The gods favored Ocon during his turn and the Frenchman made the smaller hole putt. However, the rules of the game failed Ocon which sparked a hilarious exchange between the Alpine men and the new investor.

Gasly mockingly said, “That doesn’t count. We said the big hole (twice, to reiterate his point).” McIlroy jumped in to claim the point. He said, “It counts for me.” and Gasly added, You played the wrong hole,” which gave birth to the innuendos in the comments section.

The fans were quick to pick up on Gasly’s comments and the caption did not help either.

The Alpine F1 team’s caption makes all the difference as an innocent game with Rory McIlroy becomes a reason for explicit puns

Thanks to Alpine’s Instagram admin’s selective hearing or desire to use fewer words to convey the message, the caption of the post showcasing Ocon’s goof-up gave the fans an excuse to make explicit puns. The caption read, “Wrong hole @estebanocon 😂 Introducing the “Rory Challenge” with @rorymcilroy ⛳️”

Now, if you are among many who have even a hint of adult humor in your repertoire, your mind will go to a certain place. That is exactly what some fans proved in the comments section as well.

Highlighting the obvious, some fans made the age-old, “That’s what she said…..” joke. While some were more subtle and insinuated the same thing with comments like, “Wait what (I hate ny mind…)🤨”.

Some fans on the other hand were more obvious and commented, “There is no such thing as a wrong hole!”

In fact, the puns became progressively worse.

“Last night, oooo~~~ he stuck in the wrong hole😂”

Say what you will, but a pun is only good when it lands but just like Ocon, most of the ones mentioned above missed it by “that” much.
