One of the biggest controversies the world of golf was embroiled in for quite some time was the floating of the Saudi-backed series. The league offered lucrative sums to elite PGA Tour golfers to switch to the LIV Golf. While the list of defectors included heavyweights like Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka, Tiger Woods stood firmly against it. The PGA Tour’s top brass even resorted to suspending the defectors, however, the migration continued. Eventually, the two leagues came to an agreement and, to the shock of many, announced a $3 billion-worth merger recently. Woods has now hit back after collaborating with none other than tennis queen, Serena Williams.

In 2022, F1 sensation, Lewis Hamilton joined Tiger and Rory McIlroy for a sweet business deal. Hamilton became the first outside investor to put his money into their passion project, TMRW Sports. The company had an ambitious project in the pipeline which created a massive buzz among the fans. The name of that project was TGL League- a tech-infused golf league that will soon kick off.

The idea of the TGL league became an instant hit among celebrities and elite sportspersons. In no time, names like Tom Brady, Steph Curry, Shaquille O’Neal, and Josh Allen put their money in. Hamilton, the highest-earning F1 driver, invested a massive sum in a venture that Woods and McIlroy started with $14.7 million.

Serena may have retired from professional tennis in September last year but her love for sports remains unwavering as ever. Moreover, she has an eye for excellent investment and put it to work to become the first to buy a team in the league.

Accompanying her as co-owners are her husband, Alexis Ohanian, and her sister and tennis compatriot, Venus. As per Alexis’ official Twitter handle, the trio is now the owner of the Los Angeles Golf Club, the TGL’s first team.

Tiger and Rory broke ground for the League in February earlier this year and are ready to officially launch it next year.

TGL’s first venue is being built in Palm Beach, Florida, in collaboration with Palm Beach State College. As of now, no broadcaster has been officially finalized, however, according to an August 2022 report from Sports Business Journal, NBC has the option to carry the league events.

The league will have six teams of three PGA players each competing in an 18-hole match on a virtual course. Matches will last 2 hours and be played across 15 weeks during primetime on Monday nights. The league will conclude with a semi-final and final match format, at the end of which the winning team will head home with the title and other rewards.
