Stepping away from the world of F1, there is only one physical sport that is safe enough and addictive enough for all the drivers to try, and that’s golf. Golf has always been a go-to sport for many athletes from different disciplines, as some even try their hand at the sport professionally after retiring. Golf fever has long existed in the world of F1 as well and the fever has spread in some of the new-generation drivers as well. Lando Norris is one of them and even took time out to watch the Ryder Cup in person supporting his old friend but not his favorite Tiger Woods.

Unlike the PGA and LIV tours’ 1v1, currently, amid stalled negotiations for their $3 billion merger, Ryder Cup is a team competition. Two teams, such as Team US and Team Europe, compete against each other to win the cup. Norris was at the venue, obviously supporting team Europe, which included his ex-teammate and friend Carlos Sainz. However, while discussing a hypothetical, Norris chose PGA defector Ian Poulter for his dream team instead of his favorite Tiger Woods.

To answer, “If you could choose any golfer to be your partner if you’re doing the Ryder Cup, who would you pick?” With little deliberation, Norris said, “Tiger Woods.” But he quickly realized he couldn’t be Team US and would be representing Team Europe if he played.

To rectify, Norris said, Rory (McIlroy) and Poults (Ian Poulter).”

That’s plenty coming from a guy who thought golf was the most boring sport in the world. However, Sainz changed that for him and now the Brit is addicted.

Thanks to Carlos Sainz, Lando Norris is a golf addict now

According to Norris, Sainz is hands down the best golfer on the grid. In fact, during his partnership with Sainz in McLaren, the Brit went from labeling Golf as boring to being addicted to it. Norris had no one but Sainz to thank for this addiction, but how bad is it? We want you to hear it from Norris himself.

“I’m fully addicted, like I can’t describe how addicted I am to golf,” said Norris. “I watch it every weekend. I’m looking at the scores. I’m watching the live streams. The golf bug has really bit me hard, but it’s really enjoyable.”

This is a drastic switch from his past admission of, “I’m not going to lie. I watched golf on TV and thought, This is the most boring thing ever.”
