Do you know how one person’s influence in someone’s life can completely change their outlook on something? Something they found extremely boring and would never have anything to do with, but now they’re addicted to it? This was Carlos Sainz‘s influence on the life of the then-rookie Lando Norris. The Brit had nothing to do with golf before he joined the circus and met his golf-enthusiast teammate back in 2019. In fact, Golf has now become a big part of Lando Norris’ life. So much so that he is addicted now and even took time out to go watch Ryder’s Cup. He is keeping up with the stars as well and his YouTube video showcases how he was ready to switch allegiance to Team US thanks to Scottie Scheffler.

Stepping away from the traditional 1V1, Ryder Cup pits teams against each other. As seen in his video, Norris went to Italy to support Team Europe. However, soon after witnessing the greatness of American golfer Scottie Scheffler, he was ready to switch his allegiance to Team US.

While watching from his room, Norris began commentating. “Scottie Scheffler’s coming in. Is he pin-seeking? Oh, that’s beautiful, beautiful!” said Norris.

He then commends the American golfer’s shot and points to his ball right next to the hole, followed by a confession that hints at his switch in allegiance. He says, “I kind of want to just run and get the ball. Scottie Scheffler hit that ball you know. I want to keep that!”

The Brit was ready to risk it all and possibly be banned and fined from the tournament for the $5 golf ball hit by Scheffler.

Lando Norris reveals his five-year plan and talks about his progress in Golf

With the limited time all F1 drivers get throughout the year, they have to divide it, catching up on multiple aspects of their lives. For the Brit, golf has become an important part of his life now. From finding it boring to being addicted to it, Norris has come a long way. However, with his own admission, there is still a long way to go.

Last year during the Mima GP weekend, Norris took time to visit Michael Jordan’s exclusive Grove XXIII. The Brit had the pleasure of Dustin Johnson’s company as well. Under his guidance, Norris revealed he was steadily making progress.

During a McLaren YouTube video, Norris was asked how he likes to wind down after a race and the answer was not surprising. “Trying to play golf, if I can.” Elaborating on the answer, when asked about his handicap Norris revealed its 15. However, when asked where would he want it to be five years down the line, he said, “5 years from now, I would like my handicap to be 5.”

This was a conversation from 2022. When the same question was asked in 2023, Norris said, “I’ve made progress towards it. Yeah, I’ve made progress, just not that much.”
