Fernando Alonso is known for getting the best out of a car. For pushing the car beyond its potential. It’s almost like the Spaniard adds half a second worth of performance to the car. Regardless, Alex Albon seems to be achieving the same feat as Alonso. As the F1 community realizes Williams’ F1 naivety when put alongside Adrian Newey’s masterpiece, they take over social media to hail Alex Albon. Why are they praising Albon and what is the Williams F1 naivety?

After the initial years of the Turbo-Hybrid era, where the team was contesting for the podiums, things have only gone southward for them. The team has been struggling toward the back of the grid for some years now with an odd point-scoring result. As the struggles continue with the team struggling to make a step forward, the 2023 season has brought some hopes with constant Q2 and rare Q3 appearances. Nevertheless, it might not be down to the car that the team is doing better.

Alexander Albon joined the team last year after his seat at Red Bull was taken away. The Thai driver has been pushing the car beyond the limit, extracting every bit of performance from it. Logan Sargeant crashed during the practice session, which meant the car had to be lifted and towed back to the garage. However, when the car was in the air, it revealed a very basic floor. The FW45’s lack of downforce was now understood as the floor is responsible for generating up to 60% of the downforce in these ground-effect cars.

A Tweet uploaded by @fastpitstop gave a side-by-side comparison of the Williams floor to the Ferrari, Mercedes, and Red Bull floor. The Red Bull floor was among the talk of the town after Sergio Perez’s crash in Monaco. The complexity of the RB19 floor is unparalleled, with many calling it a ‘Masterpiece’ designed by Adrian Newey. Looking at the FW45 floor and RB19 floor, the lack of effort and innovation from Williams’ side is clearly visible.

Many fans took over social media as they apologized for making fun of Alex Albon for being slow after they realized that it was the car, which is the problem. The fans hailed the former Red Bull driver for his stellar performances. Let’s see what they had to say.
