Guanyu Zhou Makes an Argument for His Alfa Romeo Seat – “I Had to Make a Lot of Sacrifices to Get Into Formula 1″

The newly recruited Alfa Romeo driver Guanyu Zhou has recently attracted criticism. F1 fans are of the opinion that Zhou has managed to grab the seat thanks to his strong financial power. Alfa Romeo sacked Antonio Giovinazzi this year to bring in the Chinese former F2 driver.
Fans alleged that Guanyu has a strong financial back-up that made him a firm favorite over Antonio Giovinazzi or the F2 Champion Oscar Piastri. Neither Antonio nor Oscar was able to manage to bring in sponsorship deals for the Italian team.
Talking to Swiss newspaper Blick, the Chinese driver has conveyed, “I can’t influence what some people think. I think I have shown in Formula 2 that I have what it takes to be among the best. I won races in Formula 2 and fought for the title. Now it’s my turn to show my skills also in Formula 1.”

What exactly the fans are upset regarding Guanyu Zhou?
Talking about fans and their perspective, some Italian Alfa Romeo fans are furious about the situation. Alfa Romeo, being an Italian team sacked the only Italian driver out there in F1. Moreover, Zhou didn’t manage something very special to be picked up by F1 teams, they believe. Oscar Piastri was the F2 champion whereas Guanyu ended up at P3 in Driver’s Championship last year.
Interestingly, Guanyu speaks Chinese, the only driver in the grid to do so. He’s also the first-ever Chinese driver to drive in F1. The Chinese are expecting a lot from him, and so is Alfa Romeo. It’ll be interesting to see how he copes with the pressure he is about to face and the ultra-fast sport that is F1. Only time will tell.
