The 2022 season has kicked off and is shaping up to be an exciting one. It has also seen a resurgent Haas looking competitive and fighting in the midfield once again. This season also marks the second season in the sport for 2020 F2 champion Mick Schumacher. However, his 2022 has not gotten off to the best of starts and his weekend in Saudi was one to forget.

Guenther Steiner gives an insight into how the Saudi Crash affected Mick

Mick Schumacher crashed out in Q2 in Jeddah. The massive crash is estimated to cost the team over $1million. The massive shunt would leave any driver short of confidence. However, Haas Team Principal Guenther Steiner believes that Schumacher will be alright.

Steiner said “I don’t think he will lose confidence.”. He went on to add, “Then, honestly, I think that by just getting back in the car, Mick will regain his usual confidence.”

He also spoke about Haas’ goals for the season and how they were aiming considerably higher than last season. This would mean more pressure on Mick to perform. Commenting on the matter, Guenther said, “So this year, we think it’s a good thing for him to have more pressure. Because he has to learn to live with it.”

The new 2022 regulations have completely changed Haas’ fate. The team has gone from being the slowest team on the grid to fighting the likes of Mercedes in the midfield. This stroke of luck has brought with it added pressure for Mick Schumacher, who enters his second season in the sport.

However, his start to 2022 has been far from ideal. The testing was a major confidence boost, but the races so far have not gone his way. He finished P11 in Bahrain while his teammate Kevin Magnussen finished in P5. Jeddah saw another strong finish for K-mag in P9, while Mick’s Q2 crash meant that he did not even get to start the race.
