The 2023 F1 season will see Haas go to the battlefield with Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg. Hulkenberg comes as a replacement after the American team trusted the German over his younger compatriot Mick Schumacher for the next season. As the decision has already been made, a former Haas driver has recently slammed the decision.

Romain Grosjean, the former Haas driver, called out the decision in a YouTube video. The Frenchman was discussing the grid for next year and when it came to Haas; he shared his take on the decision. Grosjean also felt Mick Schumacher deserved more changes to showcase his calibre.
Talking about the decision, he stated, “Personally, I think it’s not the choice I would have made.” The Kannapolis-based team decided to part ways with Michael Schumacher’s son after he spent two bitter-sweet years at Haas.

Grosjean further stated on the young German who had a better sophomore as compared to the first year, “I think Mick Schumacher had a good end of the season and there were no clear reason to change him, but the team wanted a different driver.”

Steiner, in particular, emphasized on the experience factor for the principal reason to part ways. Schumacher Jr. is comparatively less experienced as compared to Hulkenberg, his compatriot, who is all set to replace him next season. Talking about this, the Haas honcho shared to Planet F1, “I think that the experience of multi-years in Formula 1 that never have been with another team than us.”

Talking about Nico Hulkenberg and his Formula 1 experience, Steiner further stated, “So by Nico being seen [as a driver with] three or four teams before, experience [is key] and experience takes time to make, and in the moment, we don’t have time, because we want to move forward.”

It’s true that Hulkenberg has got more race experience than Schumacher. The German so far has 187 race entries to his name. He raced for the teams like Williams, Sauber, Force India, Renault and Racing Point and in 2022, Hulkenberg was the reserve driver for Aston Martin.
