Mick Schumacher came into the F1 circuit with a lot of expectations on his shoulders. With his father, Michael Schumacher, and his uncle, Ralf Schumacher, proven talents in F1, Mick needed to prove his mettle. But things have not been smooth-sailing.

Mick Schumacher joined Haas during turbulent times. Mick made up an all-rookie lineup for Haas alongside Nikita Mazepin. And sadly, he went on to grab a spot on an unwanted list i.e. top 10 drivers with most races without a point.

To be publicly called out by the team principal for inconsistency is not how Mick would have liked the final phase of the season to go. Guenther Steiner, the boss at Haas F1, talking to speedweek.com said, “To be honest, we don’t know if Mick (Schumacher) will stay or not. He has delivered very good races in Canada, England and Austria. But he lacks the consistency, he should often perform well.”

“We’re in no hurry on the driver issue and Mick still has chances to show what he can do,” he said.

While things marginally improved since his start, the performances have deteriorated since. Steiner, when asked about Haas’ 2023 lineup, said, “It hasn’t been decided yet”

“I’ve talked to most of the possible drivers, that’s my job too. Nothing concrete yet. In any case, we only want to take the smallest risk for the development of the team”

The going looks tough for the young German. With his contract due to expire at the end of the remaining 6 races, he will be thinking hard about his future. 

What does Mick Schumacher’s future look like?

Considering the strong comments Steiner made regarding Mick’s candidature, it would look like the youngster is going out from Haas at the end of 2022.

Haas and Steiner have a host of candidates to choose from. The team has Daniel Ricciardo, Nico Hulkenberg, and Antonio Giovinazzi under consideration, among others.

The boss says, “But there are none of those who are currently driving on the market. Except maybe for Dany (Ricciardo). His form isn’t great at the moment and we don’t know what he’s up to. Maybe he’ll sit out a year. As I said, I talk to everyone”.

However, their decision is complicated by vacancies at Alpine as well. Alpine is looking into the possibility of Hulkenberg partnering with Esteban Ocon in 2023 as well.
