Fernando Alonso recently met with an accident while riding his bike on the Swiss roads. Subsequently, this dealt a blow to his hopes of making a sensational comeback to Formula 1. Speculations swarmed around social media that the Spaniard could miss out on the crucial winter testing.

Thankfully, amid such scary rumors, the reality saw the F1 fans heave a huge sigh of relief. A day after the accident, the Alpine F1 team confirmed that their newly recruited driver had gone through surgery on his jaw.
They also clarified that the 39-year-old would be very much fit for the approaching winter testing set to take place in Bahrain. And true to their words, Alonso is, in fact, recovering at a speedy pace.
The Spaniard provided his first update since the horrifying road accident in Switzerland.

What does the recent Fernando Alonso update mean for Alpine?
The good news for the F1 community, especially his team Alpine, is that Alonso is out of bed and is already into the recreational phase.
Had his recovery rate slowed down a bit, it could have been a chaotic phase for the French team. Considering Alonso’s lack of on-track runs in recent years, the Spaniard is already on the back foot compared to his fellow racers.
Hence, this could have forced Alpine to keep Alonso on the sidelines for a few weeks while one of their standby drivers took over his seat.

But thankfully, Alonso’s desire for an F1 return has kept him in the game. With the winter testing just weeks away, things are lining up pretty well for the Spanish driver and his newly born Alpine F1 team. But can they succeed in this new journey?
The future is looking good for the Renault-powered team. But, as the team went through a partial refurbishment after the 2020 season, it is still uncertain as to where they stand amongst the closely knitted mid-field pack.
On such a competitive grid comprising the ever-dominant Mercedes AMG and the potential threats, Aston Martin and McLaren Mercedes, will Alpine rise up to be the next constructor’s champion? Well, only time will tell.
