The Turkish Grand Prix Qualifying was the major act in the F1 circus this weekend. Istanbul Park had in store the most exciting Qualifying session this season, and Lance Stroll paced ahead to claim the front seat at today’s race.
Turkey is presently freezing, with temperatures falling below 10 degree Celsius. The Istanbul Park hid itself in a thick sheet of fog yesterday. Naturally, it was very difficult for drivers to find their way around the circuit.
The track was wet yesterday, and the qualifying was a disaster awaiting fulfillment. In such a situation, the manner in which Lance maneuvered his car was commendable. So, the praise for the Canadian is flowing in from all sides.
“I want to also congratulate Racing Point for being right up there in the front with Lance and Checo. Looking forward to a wetter race tomorrow. Certainly, would be very exciting if we are able to catch up,” remarked Toto Wolff.
Lando Norris had harsh words for Lance Stroll after the Portuguese GP. However, when Stroll displayed class, the Englishman didn’t shy away from praising him.
“Hats off to @lance_stroll That was quite something. Fair play. Congrats on your first Pole Position, well deserved,” tweeted Norris.
Lance Stroll scored the first pole position of his career. The racer has received a lot of hatred from many in the Formula One world. Even several pundits often claimed that Lance Stroll was unworthy of a place on the grid. Well, here he is doing less talking and more racing.
Stroll outsmarted the Mercedes and the Red Bull cars well. While the experience of a 6-time World Champion ate fog and mist, the young Canadian whizzed past them on the wet track. Impressed to see such a talent in him, Lewis took to Instagram in a bid to congratulate him.
“This is awesome. Well done, mate,” read the champion’s Instagram story.
Well, that was not all. The Racing Point driver impressed everyone on the grid. Starting from the top to way down to George Russell. The Briton also posted an Instagram story congratulating his competitor.
“Big congrats to @Lance_Stroll. Mega impressive,” read the story of George Russell.
Lance Stroll is the first Canadian to take a pole position at a Grand Prix since Jacques Villeneuve. He also gifted his team, Racing Point, their first pole position since 2009. The weekend looks set for the Pink Mercedes to take over and turn the tables.
Racing Point look forward to their best finish in the championship. After what could be a massive advantage for the team, they should not take it easy; instead, they should look to rise to the occasion.
