In 2020, Sergio Perez, racing for Racing Point, climbed the grid and went from P20 to P1. Now, even though he has the fastest car, he seems to want to replicate the same. In Austria, while his teammate, Max Verstappen, got a 4th consecutive Pole position, Perez failed to get to Q3 for the 4th consecutive time. The pressure is clearly getting to him. But instead of owning up to his mistakes, he has shifted the blame to an ex-Red Bull driver.

The Mexican racer has been finding unique ways to not get to Q3. It’s almost as if he is a part of some elaborate prank that is being played on Red Bull. To defend his unique methods of failed performances, he has come up with unique “excuses”. Unfortunately, this time, Williams’ Alex Albon has gotten caught in the middle of it.

In Q2, Sergio Perez set 3 flying laps. And in all 3 laps, he exceeded track limits out of turn 10. As a result of which, he was eliminated in Q2 once again. And he had his reasons ready to defend himself. Perez said after the session, “On my final lap, I found Albon and I just went straight. I think I lost a tenth or more than that just by going straight, but the stewards wouldn’t consider that I was blocked.”

As a racer driving for the best team on the grid, if you give ridiculous reasons for not performing, you are bound to get ridiculed. In this case, ridiculous might even be an understatement because all fans could see that Albon had absolutely nothing to do with Perez’s failure.

Fans Ridicule Sergio Perez as He Blames Alex Albon for His Mistakes

Within the span of 8 races, Sergio Perez has gone from being one of the best to bad to worse. To maintain that balance, Verstappen has gone from being one of the championship contenders to the sole one. In Q2 in Spielberg, Perez had 3 opportunities to set a decent time, without exceeding track limits. But he could not do so because of his own mistakes. And he decided to blame Alex Albon for impeding him on one of his flying laps.

What fans found funny was that Albon was the driver who Perez replaced at Red Bull. After that, the fans left no stone unturned in reminding him of his mistakes and responsibilities.

Only one fan’s supportive tweet stood out among all the negativity. And maybe this is what Perez should focus on instead of looking at different avenues to channel his frustration.

In Canada, Perez blamed the RB19 for being a bit slow. But despite being fast in Austria, he found a way to never see the track in Q3. On one hand, Verstappen has been extracting every nanosecond of pace from the car. On the other hand, Perez is finding ways to extract himself from his Red Bull seat. His fans can only hope that he makes a strong comeback in the race.
