Netflix’s Drive to Survive has made F1 famous worldwide by adding the human elements of anger, delight, anguish, and everything else to it. In videos, an insight into what goes into building and sustaining a team was shown, which undoubtedly everybody loved. And now we’re going to talk about one of the most famous incidents ever shown in the four seasons of the show, which features Haas boss Guenther Steiner. It is also probably the most popular meme to come out of the F1 world.

The incident featured Steiner and Haas’ drivers, Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean. It occurred after the driver duo crashed into each other during the 2019 Silverstone GP, despite the team’s struggles in the buildup to the race. Following the race, both drivers engaged in fighting, but Steiner had none of it and refused to arbitrate.

Steiner shouted at Magnussen after the driver tries to defend himself, saying, “I’m not f**king going into who is right and who is wrong. I don’t want to get ‘he moved, he should have moved’ and all that f**king w*nk.”

“Gene [Haas] spends 100 f**king million of his own f**king money which f**king wants to pull the plug and let everybody down because you are two f**king idiots? I’ve not more to f**king say to you guys and if you don’t like it I don’t need you here. Don’t come back, please.”

And as Magnussen leaves the room, he smashes the door. Steiner says on the mic, “He smashed my fu**ing office door. I don’t know where he is but he can f**k off, I told him. Both of them. F**king hell. We have got two f**king idiots driving for us.

“This is not acceptable and we will make changes. If it would be my decision now I would sack them both.”

Things didn’t settle easily at Haas. The season could never pick up for them apart from the very next race in Germany where it bagged 10 points.

Immediate aftermath at Haas after the race 

Drivers of the same team crashing into each other never fare well with the team and especially its boss. Moreover, the accident between the Haas drivers occurred at a time when the team was already dealing with financial issues and had to go through a hard time to keep itself afloat. Later, the team let go of both of its drivers in 2021.

After the race, as per Formula1.com, Steiner made sure to send a strong message to his drivers, “The best that our drivers could bring to the battle was a shovel – to dig the hole we’re in even deeper. We need to go back, regroup, and see what we do in future. Both of them [are in trouble], it is not acceptable what happened.”
