While both drivers bring a lot of strengths to Ferrari, the team needs stability at the moment. While Ricciardo is a phenomenal driver he wouldn’t necessarily be a good fit. The Maranello outfit’s already experienced tensions within the team with Vettel and Leclerc and doesn’t need a repeat of the same.
With the Italian team signing Leclerc on a 5-year deal, it confirms the fact that the Monegasque is Ferrari’s future. More importantly, it’s also the unofficial affirmation of his status, as number 1 within the team. It’s unlikely for a driver of Ricciardo’s caliber and attitude to put up with team orders. After all the politics and drama that transpired at Red Bull, Ricciardo won’t be willing to make way for Leclerc as the team pleases.
