Sebastian Vettel will be hoping to regain his old form following his move to Aston Martin Racing in 2021. But former F1 driver, David Coulthard, suggested otherwise. He opined that Vettel might not get back to his groove with the Stroll-owned team and added that the German is “a spent force.”

According to PlanetF1, Coulthard expressed his view on Vettel’s switch to Aston Martin. “Seb is a spent force,” he said. “He was a four-time world champion. But that’s in the past and this is very much about the now and the future.”

However, following the Vettel signing, Racing Point stressed on the point that they will help the German find the touch he has missed so far in Ferrari. In return, all they are expecting is his experience to develop the 2022 car comprising the technical regulation changes.

Coulthard, though, pointed out the downside of the team’s future hopes depending entirely on the current Ferrari driver. “There is nothing [Vettel] can do to influence the overall design of the car,” he said. “He’s not a designer.”

Considering Racing Point’s fighting spirit, the team will do everything from their side to get the four-time world champion back up to speed. But the question is, will Vettel be able to do that?

Coulthard felt that Vettel spent way too much time being out of form and added that it would be quite a herculean task for the German to find his speed in Aston Martin.

“Seb has been outside the top 10 now for several races. And yeah, it’s over,” Coulthard said. “You hope he finds his form at Racing Point. But I doubt it.”

“Well, you can never say never. But I just don’t see what would be different going to a mid-grid team that is going to re-ignite the passion.”

Although Vettel is just around 33 years old, the time with Racing Point could be his final shot at changing the fortunes to his favor.

If the Racing Point move turns out to be a dead-end for the German, then the only other path he could take is the one which leads to retirement. But will Vettel go to that extent? The answer is just months away.
