Mercedes Boss talks about Lewis Hamilton in 2022
The 32-year-old driver was just one race win away from lifting his record-breaking eighth championship. But Hamilton lost the 2021 final race to Verstappen after former race director Michael Masi’s questionable safety car decision.
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff recently had dinner with the soccer club Juventus’ manager, and they talked about the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP. Wolff shared, “You know, I had dinner yesterday with the coach of Juventus, Massimiliano Allegri. And he started the conversation saying, ‘None of us can believe what happened to you in Abu Dhabi!’

Wolff further shared that Hamilton adapted to the struggling W13. The seven-time world champion was driving a car capable of winning a championship around four months ago, and now he’s stuck with a troublesome Mercedes car.

The German team again encountered a lot of bouncing in the Monaco circuit. Hamilton was struggling with the W13 throughout Friday and Saturday sessions. Further, P8 was the best position that Hamilton could qualify for this weekend.
After the P8 qualifying, Hamilton hopes it will rain on the Sunday race. So, he can find a little edge during the race on the Monaco circuit. Post-qualifying, Hamilton reported, “I am not doing any dancing, but I do want it to rain, so I am not just driving around in the dry in eighth.”
